Ingredient Focus – What is Niacinamide in Haircare?

SalonLab-Me_How-To

When it comes to skincare, consumers are becoming more and more aware of the effect that a specific active ingredient has on the skin – yet when it comes to those ingredients in haircare, individuals are less aware of how they impact the hair. This is why we're lifting the lid on the ingredients we choose to work with to help you better understand their benefits!

Discover the power of Niacinamide and why we use it within haircare…

What exactly is Niacinamide?

Initially Niacinamide sounds like something that's potentially a little scary, however it's actually a very important B Vitamin – a form of Vitamin B3 to be exact – and it's causing a stir in the beauty care world due to its many benefits.

Niacinamide is a powerful antioxidant used to neutralise the damaging effect of free radicals caused by the environment; Niacinamide helps to fortify and nourish the hair. This is similar to how it works in skincare; strengthening the skin's barrier to help it appear more radiant and healthy, reducing the signs of ageing.

Where does Niacinamide come from?

Niacinamide, or Vitamin B3, occurs naturally and can be found in some of the foods we eat. It can be naturally derived from Nicotinic Acid, something that is found in plant-based food, such as cereals.

What does Niacinamide do when it comes to haircare?

When it comes to the scalp and haircare, the use of skincare-inspired ingredients – or 'skinification' – is particularly important as we all become more aware of just how important these high-performing ingredients are – not only for our skin, but also for our hair and scalp too.

It's simple really, a healthy scalp is a major contributor to healthy hair, and in turn a personalised haircare regime will help it to stay that way! Powerful active ingredients, such as Niacinamide, can support our hair's health in a variety of ways, bolstering from the inside out.

When it comes to damaged hair, Niacinamide is particularly helpful as it strengthens and nourishes damaged hair – similar to how Panthenol is especially effective in normal to dry, or curly hair types.

When combined with the high-performing Triple Bonding Technology present within SalonLab&Me products, our carefully selected products with just the right amount of Niacinamide also provide the following benefits (when used within either a Shampoo, Conditioner or Treatment):

  • Revitalises and reconstructs the hair fibre
  • Improves elasticity and manageability
  • Intensively nourishes over-processed hair
  • Helps to prevent the hair from breakage
  • Restores suppleness and shine

Niacinamide is also one of those key ingredients that plays nicely with others, so it's great for creating a truly customised beauty care routine.
