How to prepare for a hair appointment

SalonLab&Me How To Client on Phone

There are certain things we should all be doing to maximise our hair appointments at the salon, no matter what treatment you would like done. Not only will you leave with better results, but you'll also prolong the time in between your appointments, making your hair look salon-fresh for longer.

Here are our top tips for making the most of your upcoming hair appointment.

“Always bring photo inspiration that details your vision clearly.”

Setting up a hair appointment:

1.

Look for a time when you are not rushed. Always allow additional time in your schedule in case the service takes more time than expected.

2.

Try to book your appointment well in advance as hair salons tend to get booked up very quickly!

3.

Request a consultation if you're unsure on what service you need. We particularly recommend this for a colour service!

The consultation:

1.

Bring pictures for inspiration of hair styles or colour you like, but try and imagine yourself with the hair colour/cut to help you decide if it will suit your face and hair type.

2.

Start with a length you want and find pictures of looks you could see yourself in. Make sure to be clear with your stylist on the minimum length expected and show a visual cue.

3.

While choosing the desired look, try to take your hair texture into account, a cut for fine hair may not be the best choice for thicker hair and vice versa!

4.

Communicate with your stylist about what works and what doesn’t work for your hair and be open minded – trust your stylist and don‘t be afraid to be flexible with your vision for the final look.

5.

For the colour desired, picture references are super important to help your stylist understand the colour and shade required. Keep in mind that getting the exact colour of a picture is not always possible due to your hair history and existing colour, be prepared that certain colouring techniques could result in extra time and money!

6.

Provide your stylist with your hair history – was your hair coloured in the past? Is your scalp sensitive? All this information will be valuable for your hair stylist. Important note: You must specify if you have used Henna previously on your hair as it can have a big impact on the colour process!

The day of your hair appointment:

1.

If you‘re booked in for a haircut, wear your hair as you normally would, as this allows the stylist to see your hair texture, natural hair type and what your typical style is.

2.

For a colour appointment it’s best to wash your hair 1-2 days prior to the appointment to avoid hair being excessively dirty, sweaty or oily and also make sure not to scrub your scalp too much before a colour appointment.

3.

Lay off applying any hair products on the day of your appointment - it's generally not recommended to arrive with heavy product build-up from styling your hair.

Most importantly, your experience when visiting the salon should be relaxing and enjoyable. When you schedule your next hair appointment, check in with your stylist on maintenance advice and to see how much time is recommended before your next appointment.

Following these tips will help you prepare for your hair appointment and keep your hair feeling salon-fresh for longer!
